Local media reports on the resumption of work at the Planned Parenthood project on Claiborne Avenue.  According to a story in the New Orleans Advocate, approximately 50 people showed up at the site on Saturday, February 28, 2015, informing workers regarding the nature of this project (an abortion facility).

In January of this year, the Louisiana Department of Health denied Planned Parenthood a “Certificate of Need”.  This is a legally required permit issued by the state upon certification that a medical or abortion facility is actually needed in the geographical area.  Planned Parenthood maintained that New Orleans should have 2,844 more abortions than are currently performed in the New Orleans area and they (Planned Parenthood) want to sell those additional abortions.  The State of Louisiana has ruled that there are already enough facilities providing abortions in Greater New Orleans.  Planned Parenthood is appealing the state’s decision.

Without this “Certificate of Need”, Planned Parenthood cannot legally operate an abortion facility in New Orleans.

Planned Parenthood held a minority business fair on Wednesday, September 3, 2014.  Approximately 40 local contractors attended.

A diverse group of about 30 pro-lifers stood outside the main entrance to the meeting passing out flyers and speaking with those going in.

 Basically, Planned Parenthood has money to build the new abortion facility, but they are having difficulty in getting labor and materials.   After a year of trying to line up contractors and after many of the big ticket contracts have already been given out, they finally get around to offering some of the work to minority businesses.  So let’s get this straight.  They had a minority job fair to recruit minority businesses to build a facility which will take the lives of many little minority babies.  (Over 6,000 abortions of black babies in Louisiana in 2013.)  And they recruited a minority businessman to pitch this scheme to other minority businesses.

Finally, a man who worked in the area but was not attending the meeting as a businessman spoke to one of the ladies with the protesters   He told her that he has 9 children and one of his daughters was going to have an abortion.  He said that after seeing the signs and literature, he was going home to tell her not to do it.

Barre McNeely Investments, Planned Parenthood General Contractor, was fined by the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors.  The company was charged with conducting contracting activities under a name that is not their registered name.  The company also contracted with an unlicensed contractor to perform work in excess of $50,000.

On August 15, 2014, Melissa Flournoy, Planned Parenthood of Louisiana Director, resigned her position after making controversial remarks.

The company revealed that it was emails from concerned citizens that helped them make the final decision to withdraw :“…all of a sudden, the emails started coming in. First, a trickle and then a fire hose…But then these things started constantly coming in. The emails were just saying, ‘Please reconsider.’ ”    At that point, company owners decided  : “we need to walk away from this.”
